It's the Flippin' Apocalypse

So I'm convinced that the world is coming to an end. Besides all the obvious cataclysms and catastrophies happening around the world (which while dire and tragic, won't be discussed here cause I know you've already read enough about them elsewhere), things started falling apart on the local level early this past weekend.

First of all, there's been a rapist or two on the loose in our otherwise peaceful town. Which is what I thought of when suddenly the afternoon air was filled cop sirens and emergency vehicle horns; maybe they had the guy in pursuit or something. But I realized this wasn't so when an emergency unit appeared down our block with guys in chemical safety suits working on mysterious, black, plastic cases. Police barred anyone from walking down the street, directly outside our residence, and roped off the intersection. All this, combined with the news of bubonic rats in Newark, has put me a little bit on edge.

Being the weak, scared, and fragile creatures that we are, we followed the only rational course of action, and got furiously drunk. Apparently everyone has gone as far off the deep end as I have, which resulted in all sorts of fun, like this kid passing out partially in the garbage can, this kid thinking he's a ytmnd, and this kid playing the hair like a bongo.

I can't think of any better way to spend the apocalypse.

Supposition and Satisfaction at The Continental

So at some point fashioncore because a subgenre of music instead of just a manner of dress. I don't know what rock I was hidden under the whole time this was happening (probably the one known as rum), but now it seems that it's the cool thing for all the new bands to play. The sound is basically the nu-core style that was popular a few years back (all the Thursday, Finch, Glassjaw derived bands), but with full-ranged, clear singing, and only occasional screaming. Which is funny only because I had predicted the nu-core style was an evolutionary dead end, and would either burn out or be replaced by something better. Whoops!

Musically, there's much more similarity to plain old rock and roll (as opposed to punk or hardcore), with occasional transitions into breakdowns or quiet parts. Most interesting of all, even though this style will probably be lumped together with emo (and is arguably a distant decendant), there is almost none of the original ethos, and very little of the asthetic, of such style. Mostly it's just hairgel and hip swinging.

The Continental served as the location for these revelations. I keep going there to see bands I only moderately know or enjoy, yet end up having fun anyway. It's a nice venue, sort of like CBGB's, but with less filth, jerks, and history. I think I'm actually starting to develop a liking for the place. We'll see where this ends up.

Oh and three of the bands I saw said at some point, "if you know the words to this next song, sing along - if not, now's the time to learn them". What's that all about? Guess it's just the fashioncore way.

Introduction

I suppose I should mention my intention of turning this into a blog once I get around to it. Cause I'm going to too. I'll also be posting some random media I've made over the past few years, and possibly some music "reviews" and gaming analysis.

Stay tuned.
